My work is inspired by the nostalgic journey of my life, from my childhood in Northampton, my hedonistic lifestyles in London and Melbourne, through to Glasgow where I currently live.

The magpie poem, ‘One for sorrow, Two for Joy, Three for a girl, Four for a Boy, Five for Silver, Six for Gold, Seven a Secret never to be told’, is the main focus of my work.

I have created a collection of seven pieces of metal smithing and seven pieces of jewellery that correspond to the words sorrow, through to secret.  

Another aspect of the work that runs concurrently with the poem is the taking of pills for health reasons. Being HIV+ the pills keep me alive and is the ‘secret’ that unites the collection as a whole.

Using my strong emotional attachments to the words from the poem I have translated these into 3 dimensional sculptural pieces, using iridescent blues and greens, the colours of magpie wings and red, which represents blood.

Combining these colours with oxidised and white bake metal effects, gold plating, etching, engraving and casting to create a narrative of my life so far.
